Goal: Create a cohesive brand identity and digital presence to connect with voters and drive campaign engagement.

When Hess for Oregon launched its gubernatorial campaign, it faced a daunting challenge: breaking through the noise of a historic 19-candidate primary as a first-time candidate. Without widespread name recognition or an established political brand, the campaign needed a strategic approach to build credibility, engage voters, and establish a distinct presence in Oregon’s crowded political landscape.

Establishing a Political Identity

From the outset, the campaign needed a cohesive visual identity and a digital strategy optimized for voter interaction. With tight deadlines and evolving messaging, we needed to craft a brand that was both authoritative and relatable, ensuring Hess stood out as a serious contender.

I led the charge in developing a modern, strategic brand identity that balanced professionalism with approachability. This meant designing a bold yet clean aesthetic that visually reinforced the campaign’s key messages. Using a familiar color palette (blue and yellow for Oregon) to symbolize unity, retro-inspired typography to denote warmth and familiarity, and combined with new elements of technology that represented the background of the candidate. The candidates branding resulted in compelling campaign materials where every detail was designed to create an immediate and lasting impression.

A Digital Strategy for Visibility and Engagement

In today’s political landscape, a candidate’s digital presence can make or break their campaign. Recognizing this, I designed and launched a website with clear messaging, intuitive navigation, and strong calls to action. The site was optimized to drive donations, volunteer sign-ups, and voter engagement while maintaining accessibility for a diverse audience.

To amplify the campaign’s reach, I oversaw a comprehensive social media strategy, ensuring consistent and engaging content that resonated with voters. Targeted graphics, shareable posts, and messaging-aligned visuals helped build momentum and increase digital engagement.

Turning Strategy into Results

The impact of this strategic branding and digital overhaul was immediate:

  • 30% increase in website traffic after launch.
  • Higher voter engagement, leading to increased email sign-ups and social media interactions.
  • Positive feedback from both the campaign team and supporters on the clarity and professionalism of the branding.

By combining strong visual branding with a results-driven digital strategy, Hess for Oregon transformed from a newcomer into a recognizable and credible candidate. This case study highlights how effective branding, messaging, and digital engagement can elevate a political campaign—turning a first-time candidate into a contender.
